Thank you to Shell, Xavier University of Louisiana, and Greater New Orleans STEM for helping to make sure our youth have access to the resources needed to start the school year off right.
Our youth in the IMPACT504 Roots2Rise summer program team up with fellows from Xavier University of Louisiana and Stanford University at the Gumbo Garden where the helped clean out a raised garden bed where pumpkins will be planted. The pumpkins will be used in our 6th Annual BOO!Dat504 Halloween Extravaganza’s pumpkin decorating stations.
The garden provides free growing lessons and healthy foods to the Gert Town Community - a win for all!
Our youth use technology to research what, when , where, and how to plant!
We bet most of you didn't know this either...
40 year Gert Town resident, Ms. Ethel, gives amazing advice and words of encouragement and support to our campers.
Food access is a major issue in New Orleans and especially the Gert Town Community - that why so much of our programming focuses on food and food access. Thanks to Neauxla Rolla Catering for pulling up and giving our kids an introduction to cooking and the food truck business.
Motivational Talks, Introduction to Container Gardening, Participant Introductions, and of course health and wellness, public speaking, breakfast, lunch and fun while learning!
From setting up, to serving their community, then the massive break down - day one of our youth summer camp was spent GIVING BACK!

Root to Rise is a 6-week free summer youth program for New Orleans students in grades 6 - 10, designed to build real skills, real confidence, and real community.
As an extension of our existing youth program, we created a space where young people are challenged to think like entrepreneurs, grow their own food, care for their bodies, and develop the life tools they need to step boldly into their future.
The Tentative Schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
The final calendar (including holidays) will be released on the first day of the program.
We received 22 applications for 15 spots!
We look forward to a great summer!
